As you may have realised my favourite Australian Rules Football team is GEELONG and it is for them that I dedicate this page. I have been a life-long supporter of the Cats, with my association beginning way back when I was just 5 years old and I used to go with my family to the football, and wearing with pride my very own Geelong jumper, complete with the number 5 on the back, the number of my favourite player, Graham "Polly" Farmer (see below), the greatest player of his time and still one of footballs legendary players.
1963 was our greatest year, winning the Premiership flag that year, but since then it has been a long hard road to travel and although we have come very close on several occasions we have not won a premiership since then. In Australian Rules Football history, Geelong is the 2nd oldest team in the league, having joined the league at its inception.
Geelong Club Song We are Geelong,
the greatest team of all, So stand
up and fight, remember our tradition
The GREAT Jimmy Bartel was one of the inspirational players that made such a great contribution to Geelong's season 2007.
Jimmy Bartel wins the Brownlow! Closely followed by Gary Ablett Jnr. and Joel Corey. The three brilliant Geelong players scored more points between them than any other team in the history of the Brownlow! GO CATS GO!!!!! VFL PREMIERS 2007
Wherever they finish on the AFL ladder I will continue to support "the greatest team of all" just as I have done for the last 45 years! And I have done it proudly.
AFL PREMIERS 2007!!!!!!
Geelong Routs Port Adelaide to Win First AFL Title
in 44 Years By Dan Baynes Sept. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Geelong routed Port Adelaide by 119 points in the Australian Football League grand final to win its first premiership in 44 years. The Cats, who had lost five championship deciders since claiming their last title in 1963, won 24.19 (163) to 6.4 (44) in front of a crowd of 97,302 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. It was the biggest winning margin in grand final history -- surpassing Hawthorn's 96-point win over Melbourne nine years ago -- and sealed Geelong's seventh premiership flag. ``It's been such a long time since we've won, there was this pressure to win, and I think the players felt it and everyone that worked at the club felt it,'' Geelong coach Mark Thompson said at a news conference broadcast on the AFL's Web Site. ``I'm glad it's gone, we can just go ahead with our business.'' The victory capped a season in which Geelong lost just four games and swept the sport's major individual and team awards. Midfielder Jimmy Bartel won the Brownlow Medal as the season's fairest and best player, Joel Selwood was named as the league's Rising Star and a record nine players were selected in the All-Australian team. In the 2008 AFL season Geelong has suffered only 1 defeat, at the hands of Collingwood, but since then has shown a clean pair of heels to the rest of the competition, clearing away from the rest by a clear margin. As it stands, at Round 20 (of 22 before the Finals), Geelong are clear favourites to win the flag for a 2nd time! This amazing young team has created their own history and taken the game to a new level in the process. Unfortunately Geelong were beaten in the Grand Final by Hawthorn but they have firmly put shock loss behind them and have continued on their winning ways throughout season 2009 to currently be sitting in 2nd place on the AFL ladder. Can you see that I am proud of MY TEAM??

Picture courtesy: Wagga Daily Advertiser 18th Feb.2004 Keeping it in the family! My son Lloyd (arrowed) in his football uniform after having been chosen to play AFL for his local league. He has played extremely well, winning praise from his Coach and team mates and his team, Bomaderry Tigers are currently un-defeated in their league. Lloyd plays in the ruck and frequently dominates the hit-outs. Unfortunately for Lloyd, and for the Bomaderry Tigers, he is out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury (ACL ligament) and could be unable to play again for a very long time.
